Go back to Windows 7?

We recently upgraded from Symphony 8.2 to 8.9.1 and from Windows 7 to
Windows 10. In all earlier releases of Symphony (back to V1), if I
wanted to bump the gamma up or down a little in the Color Corrector, I
could just give a single mouse tap on the appropriate arrow and the
gamma would increment by about .047 per click. Now, the click is sticky
and may roll as much as 5 clicks with one tap. I can still control it
with the scroll wheel or by typing in numeric values but my longtime
muscle memory wants to click on those arrows. Anyone know of a way to
get the old behavior back? Many Thanks. --J.B.

Agree with you on Resolve 14; still can't trust it for day in and day out editorial. I get freezes, crashes and varying playback speeds. I moved my work over to FCPX and have not looked back. Not perfect but blazing fast and more stable than Resolve or Premiere. I wish Avid had a place in my market, but it no longer is in the freelance conversation unless specifically requested. Most Avid shops have gone to Adobe CC.

Find/Phrasefind is BAD at:- media which is linked- media not on local volumesIf your media is linked, set up a transcode and let the indexes rebuild on those. If your media is on a server volume, consolidate to a local volume.Doesn't that sound ridiculous? Yes, yes it does. Good luck.On Sun, Sep 24, 2017 at 3:11 PM, Dan McCabe danlist@bestmail.us [Avid-L2] <Avid-L2@yahoogroups.com> wrote:Yes. Both the Bin Index and The PhraseFind Index are green.

I am proficient in Avid and am starting to dabble more in Resolve. I've used Premiere to migrate a Premiere project to Avid a year or so ago and I battled all along the way. The bottom line for me is if I don't live a piece of software day in and day out like I do with Avid it's hard to feel comfortable.
I know I waited a long time to jump onto Avid as my linear bay was rock solid at the time and Avid was barely getting into broadcast quality but I was fortunate to get to learn Avid online from the ground up. Now it's hard to step back into novice mode on the other apps but there is no avoiding it at some point. I've recently been trying to test an xml workflow from FCPX to Resolve. I know this is supposedly a robust workflow but when I bring in the xml some of the clips are offline. I don't know if it is just a media compatibility issue as this is just a test with some pretty poor offline media. I see the sequence but then I find that I can't quit Resolve if I look at the sequence in the edit page, or anywhere else. I have to force quit. I took an Avid 4K project and aaf'd into Resolve and I don't have a problem quitting. So something about the FCPX xml or the offline media doesn't crash Resolve 12.5 but I have to force quit, strange. I'm left with the option to tell the offline folks to uprezz and just give me a baked file I can parse from an xml or edl, not sure which is better for parsing. I would think the xml and all the layers might confuse the basic parsing where as an edl for V1, if that's even proper nomenclature for FCPX with it's compond clips etc... I figure a baked out file will eliminate any translation issues of resizes, motion effect etc...
I have a fellow experienced online editor who is proficient in Resolve and on his MacBook Pro laptop, 13 inch, he said when he did a project in Resolve 14 the playback was stuttery and problematic but when he back reved to 12.5 on the same laptop the playback problems went away. Now this is exactly the opposite of what I've heard at NAB and since then. Resolve 14 is supposed to be much snappier overall. I also hear the term optimized media and I don't know if that is some sort of rewrapping of media so it plays better in Resolve. I'm going to have to keep researching this. All these little bugs and annoyances just make me want to stay in Avid and live with symphony color correction or use the baselight plugin but then I have to learn baselight. I've heard baselight is different from Resolve as far as interface overall so then it comes down to where I want to put my energy into. Resolve seems to have more traction with it's free version etc... but I like you am tired of having to relearn new workflows that often times are seemingly less efficient than what I know has worked for almost 2 decades. Can't stand still but which way to run, argggh.

I can't speak first hand as I'm on Resolve 12.5 for now. I set my Avid to auto Save every 3 minutes and it never takes me a minute to wait. Even in 4K. In the past I've had bins that would take a long time to save but hasn't been that time consuming. I feel your pain and it's why I auto save often and still let it save after every render.

I used to love cutting on media composer, but there's nothing more frustrating than when you're 'in the zone,' completely oblivious to your hardware, and media composer just decides to take a break. Uhg. Don't blame my install, don't blame my version, don't blame the era of computer I'm using, don't blame my autosave duration (who wants to wait a full minute for saving every time autosave comes on?) We should no longer need a work around for this issue. This is just not a modern problem.
Rant over. I'll now spend 15 minutes redoing the edits I made 20 minutes ago.
