[Avid-L2] Re: Blu-Ray Burning

When Avid DVD by Sonic (Sonic DVDitProHD went EOL a few years ago) I
moved to TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5 (TAW5).
The non-standard interface puts a lot of people off, but once you get
the hang of it you should find it reliable and easy to use.
I think that Encore had a few features that are absent in the present
TAW5 - but TAW is not EOL as Encore is.
I have a series of tutorials that covers the most of what you need to
know about TAW5 in conjunction with Avid MC that might be of use to
anyone giving it a try. (They, Pegasys, have a 30 day trial download
available)
Information on my tutorial is at
http://www.gaijin-eyes.com/2015/2015tmpgenctaw.html

Douglas

I'm glad they pointed out that recruiters should not respond. I can just imagine all the recruiters desperate to send this off to the kinds of editors that have representation

Re: [Avid-L2] MC 7.0.2 - error when trying to uninstall

I tried Terry's suggestion below about the privacy and security settings and that got me part way there.  But I still wasn't able to run a complete uninstall using the Avid uninstaller.

So I called Avid support and their response was almost immediate.  The support person walked me through a manual uninstall, consisting of deleting folders in different locations.  I then ran the 8.3.1 installer and it worked perfectly.  The whole thing took less than 15 minutes.  Good experience with Avid tech support.

Was it warm and fuzzy like after an OKI Dog?

Heh heh.  Actually, I was more relieved than anything else - I normally edit on a Mac Pro (tube), but I needed the laptop upgrade to go well for a presentation I am doing next week.

Tech support fixed it - must have been a technical problem.

[Avid-L2] Re: things that make you go "hmmmm"

I'd suggest a different edl format other than cmx with it's 6 character limit.  I think if you run it through with cmx transfer protocol or some of the others it could support more characters to allow it to translate:

The "Greedy Rich" get "Filthy Rich."  Much more accurate when you have more characters at your disposal.  ;-)
