[Avid-L2] ATL Area Job Posting (Pro Tools ACI)

Hi Avid-L2 folks!

About 4 months ago I started a new position at Georgia Film Academy (GFA), which is adjacent to Pinewood Studios, as head of their post production education. The GFA has a couple of divisions. One is essentially university students, and the other is Professional Education (ProEd) which provides intensives for people to get a lot of information in a relatively short period of time (like Moviola in Los Angeles does, or Future Media Concepts in NYC does, for example).

GFA is expanding from just Avid Media Composer into adding Pro Tools, so they are searching for a Pro Tools Avid Certified Instructor(s) for both divisions. The first priority is an ACI for the 16 week class of university students. The job search information is below. Feel free to share it with any people, groups, or forums you think would have interest. Please do not include my contact information – please share only the information following my signature, below.

Much appreciated!

Cheers,
Benjamin

Re: [Avid-L2] Black Magic Express Stutters on H_264 playback?

No, of course not. How old are you?
ProResHQ is a codec, MXF is a container. Don't compare apples to oranges.

Would this work with a QT Reference file that was referencing Avid renderered ProResHQ?

No, of course not, as a QT file is not a MXF file.

Also can it put in Time Code Burn In.

That is not supported. This thing was created to AMA in GoPro footage, without transcoding. The rest is bonus / spin off.
I do have MakeTranscriberFiles that can do this, but, that one does NOT (yet) take MXF sources that are in the making.
(Well, it does, but if the transcode is faster than the MXF creation, it will fail.)

Now, there is a perfectly good free demo with a perfect written manual, how about throwing is some 10 minutes of your time and find out what it can and cannot do?

Reason it is fast, it starts the moment you start exporting an MXF
(You set a watchfolder, put it to work and the moment it sees a new file, it gets to work, so it's done at about the same time as your Avid MXF export.)

I've never had complaints about the resulting H264.

The demo will burn in a logo. The paid version can do a burn in of your own logo, if needed.

Anybody seen poor H_264 performance with Black Magic Express?

Hi, guys,

Blackmagic has released an another update today to their BRAW plug-in, allegedly giving it full functionality with Media Composer. But alas…

Whereas you can easily link to BRAW footage; and whereas you can (sort of) play it in the Source Monitor, and cut it into the Record monitor, into a sequence…

…YOU CANNOT TRANSCODE in Media Composer to DNxHD resolutions.

The relevant column in the bin says that the clip is 'Unsupported.' And yet we can still link to the BRAW clip, and see it happily in the Source and Record monitors.

But we just can't transcode in Avid!

Blackmagic says this should work. But it doesn't. I don't claim t know where the fault lies. I'm only submitting an issue that I would love for Avid to be aware of since a lot of people are using this codec.

Many thanks..

David

[Avid-L2] 4k help

We are chugging along in HD on unsupported MC v8.1.

We will continue to broadcast our low budget HD program on small
local stations here in Japan, but I'd like to move to 4K shooting
to be able to take advantage cropping & resizing in edit without
loss of HD quality -- lock down a wider shot on two people and be
able to crop out an HD head and shoulders shot of each
individual, etc. Yes, I know the aesthetics suck, but that's
where our budget is at.

We now shoot with Canon XF305 and XF105.

This gives us a really good workflow, as the Canon codec just
plays without any fuss in MC.

I realize I have to upgrade computers (we're Mac based) and MC,
but can anyone tell me what set up I would need (hardware and MC
version) to take UHD 4K clips from a low end camera like an XF705
or even a Canon XC15, and get the same playback performance we
get in HD with XF305 clips? Is it even possible?

Sorry, we're so low end I haven't been keeping up at all on 4K
chatter.

Appreciate any advice.
