Re: [Avid-L2] Codecs Ama the musical fruit Cannon XF mpeg2 50 Mbit 422?

Never needed to install canon AMA drivers to link to AMA. Check device
firmwares. Make sure that camera firmware is compatible with deck/drive
firmware. You can corrupt the disks file system if you're not careful.

Re: [Avid-L2] Fluidmotion Edit very iffy with box shape?

Weird question.

Would you get better results working backwards? I know that AE calculates
motion blur more accurately when you work frame by frame in reverse.

[Avid-L2] Re: Fluidmotion Edit very iffy with box shape?

I never understood Fluidmotion until an actual engineer from Avid showed me how to use it. Now I get it, but yes, it's not intuitive. That is why Apple, where the engineers have to make what the designers want actually work, is a great company. But even that can backfire as the iPhone 4 proved.

[Avid-L2] Re: Fluidmotion Edit very iffy with box shape?

Wow that's unintuitive. It says in the help and mentions intraframe editing like the animatte. Seems like it is different than regular intraframe keyframable effects like paint effect if you can have a start keyframe with one shape and an end keyframe with a modified shape and have the region morph accordingly between start and end. What you say discribes what I'm going through. Here's from the help menu:

To define a region for FluidMotion Edit:
1.

In the Display parameter category, click the Fast Menu button, and then select Warp 50% or Color Warp 50%.
Warp 50% shows the image generated by FluidMotion that is halfway between source material Image A and Image B. Color Warp 50% shows the same image, with an overlay of motion vector colors.
2.

(Option) Select Show Vectors to display the motion vector arrows.
3.

Step through your clip until you reach an image in which you want to make a correction.
4.

Select a shape from the drawing tools in the Effect Editor, and draw around the region that has the artifact.
You use the drawing tools in the same way as you would for Intraframe editing. You can copy, move, and modify any shape. For more information, see Intraframe Editing.
*

Use the Feathering and Brush parameters at any point during the correction process to help define and modify the selected area.

[Avid-L2] Re: Fluidmotion Edit very iffy with box shape?

The FluidMotion paint effect is a frame based thing. When you paint something out, it only happens on that one frame. So you have to do it frame by frame if you want to use it.

You can use the Fluidmotion Draft mode while you work, and just change it for the render.

Re: [Avid-L2] Slightly OT: Avid app for iPad ? still available ?

Its called pinnacle studio, but you may also want to take a look at this:

http://provideocoalition.com/ssimmons/story/will-touchedit-be-the-ipad-nle-weve-been-waiting-for

I seem to remember a year ago or so there was an Avid iPad app released. I also recall that in an independent review, the Avid app was clearly favored over the iMove iPad app.
My daughter just got the newest iPad for Christmas and wanted to cobble together some clips. Can't seem to locate it in the Apple App store - anyone know anything ?

Thanks in advance

[Avid-L2] Codecs Ama the musical fruit Cannon XF mpeg2 50 Mbit 422?

I was originally told the project I've been working on was shot XDCam.  Today I ama linked to the disk camera media archive masters and Avid calls the video  Cannon XF Mpeg-2 422 50 Mbits (1080i/60).  The AE who told me they shot XDCam did so because he thought the needed the XDCam plugin to work with the footage.  After some research it seems this Cannon codec is similar, if not identical to the mxf files a nanoflash records and also XDCam.  I see there are ama plugins for the Cannon XF series.  Are these required in conjunction with the XDCam ama plugin.  Does the Cannon make use of some of the XDCam plugin when being ama'd into Avid?  I also read there are times when this codec is mislabeled by NLE's as XDCam.  I also saw something about a 100Mbit version that still gets labeled/flagged as 50Mbits.  I seem to recall Greg H. having mentioned something about these confusing elements a while ago.  Can someone refresh my memory with some
practical experience.  If they in fact shot with Cannons in the field it might explain some of the whacky lack of timecode and reel numbers we've been battling in online.  My brain is starting to hurt a lot.  ;-(

[Avid-L2] Re: Fluidmotion Edit very iffy with box shape?

Also this isn't just while in the fluidmotion edit interface. When I render the effect the warpys, would it be warpies?, are there in the render.

With that keyframe highlighted if I move the box just a little it pops to losing the warp in the box like it's supposed to. Something seems wrong here. Mac os 10.7.3 MC 6.0.3.2 with a nitris dx. Hmmmmmm not something I've done much of but it feels like a broke and I am in high quality green box mode otherwise none of the fluidmotion edit stuff works, that's another gotcha I hit.

That was a basically okay work around. But that doesn't address why the shape is not sticking when it's there in the beginning and end keyframe with no movement.

[Avid-L2] Re: Fluidmotion Edit very iffy with box shape?

Upon further playing I have even had a keyframe with a box and the warp still happens in the box which is wrong. With that keyframe highlighted if I move the box just a little it pops to losing the warp in the box like it's supposed to. Something seems wrong here. Mac os 10.7.3 MC 6.0.3.2 with a nitris dx.
