[Avid-L2] Germany SNFT Gmbh extension and dongle and nVidia Web drivers?

Spent some quality time with Avid Tech today to get my macpro mid 2012 12 core 3.46Ghz 64GB ram Mac OS 10.13.6 to recognize my dongle.  I had installed the sentinel driver and when I upgraded the OS from 10.12.6 to 10.13.6 back around February I could not launch MC 2018.12.7 because it would hang at initializing composer windows.  Yesterday I downloaded MC 2018.12.12 to see if it would launch but it wouldn't even begin to launch saying my license wasn't working.  The computer wasn't seeing the dongle.  Today we went through all the under the hood settings and permissions and finally was able to allow the Germany SNFT Gmbh extension in the security preferences.  Then the  computer saw the dongle.

When we enabled the SNFT extension the computer restarted twice but came up.  Then I could launch MC 2018.12.12 but again it hung at Initializing Composer Windows.  I googled and I saw someone had found the nVidia Web drivers were a possible conflict.  I went to the nVidia preferences and choose the OSX default driver that does work with my GTX-680 in the tower but doesn't properly recognize the two TitanX GPUs in my cyclone microsystems expansion chassis.

Now the computer won't boot to that startup partition.  It stalls about a quarter or third of the way on the progress bar.  I can boot in safe mode but how do I undo what we did.

After we allowed the SNFT extension and the double reboot the dongle was recognized but I didn't do a restart at that point.  So now I don't know if the enabling of the SNFT is causing the issue or if when I switched to default OSX graphics driver did it or both.  Is there a way in safe mode I can set back to nVidia web driver and or can I not allow the SNFT from safe mode?  I have an old CCC clone that I will try but now I'm CCC cloning the crippled start up drive.

I hate the thought of a clean install but maybe it's time to bite the bullet.  Heck maybe someday I'll actually rebuild my avid settings like I should.

Any suggestions are welcome.  It is curious to me that I've never enabled the SNFT before because I didn't know what it was for.  I had google but I didn't find anything that suggested it was Avid related.  Perhaps my lame google skills are showing.

I don't know anything about ProRes Raw, but I am using a late 2013 iMac with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M with Mojave. Upgraded from High Sierra mid-April 2019.

[Avid-L2] ProRes Raw Support requires Mojave?

It seems I can't use Resolve or even the latest Adobe Media Encoder to deal with ProRes Raw unless I upgrade to Mojave.  Here's what I found:

The following Beta applications support import of ProRes RAW footage:
- After Effects (Beta) 17.1.0.33 (and later)
- Media Encoder (Beta) 14.2.0.1 (and later)
- Premiere Pro (Beta) 14.2.0.1 (and later)
- Premiere Rush (Beta) 1.5.9.4 (and later)

System Requirements for macOS:

So is there now way on Mac OS 10.13.6 to deal with ProRes Raw?  If I go to Mojave my understanding is I will lose support for all my nVidia GPUs.  Anybody got work arounds for ProRes Raw?  I've read transcoding to ProRes 4444 is required to get it to work in Resolve.  Are there codec wars/ pissing matches going on here.

I see MC 2019 added support for ProRes Raw.  Is it possible that would work on OS 10.13.6?  I've read I need to new Apple Pro Video Codecs but they won't load on 10.13.6 it errors and says 10.14 Mojave needed.  Does Avid's native support rely on the Apple Pro Video Codecs?

Re: [Avid-L2] Adding Partitions to HFS+ and File Shrinking?

I'm like you using Mac HFS+ and Disk Utility.  I ended up bailing after two hours and offloaded the media to another drive and erased what existed on the initial valume.  Then the partitioning went fast.  I'm assuming it was what is listed in the process as "file shrinking" where the disk utility moves existing files to the proper sectors where the initial partition is going to be once it is shrunk down in size.  I had almost a TB of media so I think that's why it was chugging along.  Usually I'm just partitioning a raw drive but in this case it was an existing volume that I shrunk down to accommodate two new partitions 4TB each.  I think if I'd waited long enough it would have completed.

I would think if the process of adding partitions erased existing media there would be warning prompts.

Typically I find partitioning multiple volumes useful on a single enclosure so I can better manage Avid media between episodes of a series.  With one partion I can only have one Avidmediafiles folder but with several partitions I can have an avidmediafiles folder on each partition then I can relink to earlier episodes and consolidate reused media to another partition dedicated to the new episode.  This helps me keep each episode more self contained.  I have rarely onlined on Nexis or other Avid project sharing networks so this approach gives me a poor man's shared storage environment and makes it really easy to archive.

Usually I make the partitions before I start to populate the drive but this case is different.

If the point of it all is to do a faux "defragment" on the RAID, you're better off copying onto a separate disk, reformat the RAID, then copy back. Partitions don't help in that situation.

No and all of the HIBs that work on Nitris DX work on Mojo.  Its best to get the Gen2 active HIB, rev. B or rev. C.

Background

Avid-L was established in 1994 at Calvin College by Steven Koster.

It was created to be a forum for Avid users to meet, discuss, and share

information.

Avid-L quickly grew into the premiere on-line users group for

professional film and video editors. It was one of the earliest examples

of an Internet community, allowing hundreds of editors worldwide to

share their experiences and expertise with their peers. There was no

better place for a professional Avid editor to get such wealth of

informed professional advice.

At various times, individual subscribers volunteered services to the

group. Searchable archives were maintained by Germany's Berlin Users

Group as well as the UIUC. A tips & tricks list was posted by Andy

Birkhead of Innovative Edit. Wes Plate, a longtime contributor, not only

shared key techniques on his Web site, he also created a photo gallery

for members' portraits.

In 1997, several subscribers began a tradition of meeting in person at

the NAB trade show in Las Vegas. The first gatherings were organized by Jaime Fowler. In 1999,

Avid Technology itself began sponsoring these gatherings as an exclusive reception and seminar for Avid-L members only.  In 2002, this changed to the "Avid Users Group" meeting.

By 1999, Avid-L boasted over 1600 subscribers, exhibiting a true

international scope with over 300  international members. The community

included participants from a wide variety of well-known corporate

organizations in broadcasting, technical, and content creation fields,

as well as and  multiple local TV stations, colleges, and universities.

In 2000, Avid-L joined AvidProNet.com, and then, in 2002, was integrated

Into Avid.com.

In 2005 Due to problems with signal to noise ratio and abusive posters, the Avid-L2 was formed. A year later the Avid-L was discontinued by Avid.

At the middle of 2006, the L2 has around 1100 members, with plenty of "lurker only" members who simply use the web version of the list.  The L2 is spam-free, by moderation and with Groups.io’s tools and will remain that way.

In 2019,  the Group has migrated to Groups,io from the previous Yahoo engine-   the Groups.io page  maintains the complete Avid-L2 archive.    The original Avid-L archive has been lost to the history of the interwebz.

Welcome, and Enjoy!

[Avid-L2] Send audio to Focusrite Scarlett Solo?

I've got a Scarlett Solo that I use for recording music into GarageBand. I was wondering if there was a way to have MC treat this as my audio hardware to send my MC audio out to my mixer (and subsequently, my speakers)?

Pictured is what Avid shows me for Audio interfaces currently.

If it's not possible with the Scarlett, should it be a BMD or AJA device? or something else?

This would be for use on a Mac running Mojave.
