Re: [Avid-L2] Hardware Recommendations

All those Sony decks have been pretty bulletproof for me.  Since you
were using Digibeta when the problem happened, I wonder if it might have
been related to capturing a SD signal.  I usually use a HDW-M2000 and
let it upconvert if I'm capturing from Beta SP or Digibeta.

Re: [Avid-L2] Hardware Recommendations

Hi John,

Yes I did end up having to use Blackmagic Media Express to capture. I used a ProRes Codec for that and everything ran smoothly.

I've uninstalled and re-installed Avid as well. For a short time I managed to get the capture tool to work again, and then when I exited out of Avid and tried it again, the system went back to crashing.

I recently contacted Avid Support with the specifics regarding my current situation. Until then, I'm looking to switch my main machines as the workload I have calls for a workhorse and I prefer using Avid to MediaExpress and Premiere as that's what I have most working knowledge and ease in.

Hey Gang,

Because I haven't been able to figure out a fix for the issue of Avid crashing when choosing a ProRes Codec in Capture tool, I'm having to switch machines.

Therefore, can anyone tell me a good external setup for capturing (tape to file) on a Mac Pro Trashcan. I don't have any experience in capturing to external sources (drives/RAID setups) so I can use a ton of advice as to how I should go about this and what y'all find works best in your own setups.

Thanks in Advance!!!

Can you capture to Pro Res using Blackmagic Media Express?  That should tell you whether it's an Avid issue or an issue with your setup.
