[Avid-L2] Squeeze locks up

Ok -

I got my EX 3 workflow down. Edit, video mixdown, export reference
file, compress in Squeeze.

Having a major problem with Squeeze though. One file it just refuses to
compress. It's a 45 minute long presentation and when Squeeze gets
within 3 minutes of the end of the compression, processor usage goes
almost to nothing, and it just sits there. Compression is 2 or 3 hours
so it's a major pain when this happens. Everything else compressed just
fine. I can let it go, and it just sits there indefinitely between 2
and 3 minutes left.

Anyone have any ideas on that one?

Mark

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: MC5, Quicktime Export Fails - Error Cod -2034

I had multiple cards, so I couldn't do AMA. I did an MXF conversion and
imported the footage.

It did work after I did the video mix down - but I thought that doing
the transcode to DNxHD, it wouldn't be necessary. It's actually the
other way around. Doing the mixdown makes the transcode unnecessary.

[Avid-L2] Re: MC5, Quicktime Export Fails - Error Cod -2034

There are a couple things you can try. Export your quicktime using marks and make sure your out point is not on the last frame of the timeline. I usually add 5-10 seconds of black at the end of my sequence and put my outpoint somewhere in there. That might fix it if your export is failing after 90%. The other thing to try is to create a video mixdown of all your video tracks and remove the other video after that's complete. Just make sure you duplicate your sequence in case you have have to go back and make changes.

[Avid-L2] Re: MC5, Quicktime Export Fails - Error Cod -2034

Mark, I haven't seen the error before - perhaps Marianna's cohorts will recognize it, but I can say I've cut a whole bunch of EX3 material, including an entire webseries that had to be uploaded.

I cut almost all of it as AMA and only transcoded on export (sounds like you're doing the same thing) but I don't understand the mpeg problem - is it all and only EX3 footage, or did you import something
else that's mpeg based?

Avid won't export AMA as Same as Source, but it should export to custom settings - again, sounds like you set it at -145, so I'm
wondering what else is in the timeline? - paul

Re: [Avid-L2] AMA woes.

Try this:

Download, install and launch the Sony Clip Browser software. Point to
the folders that AMA cannot see.

Sometimes, Clip Browser will re-index the folder and rewrite the
necessary .xml files. The folders *should* have a little EX icon, if
Clip Browser sees them as valid. Once you've done that, try AMA again.

That process has worked for me.

Yes. I have to mention that other EX footage is fine. It's only from the F3.

I have a 1080i/59.94 project. Most of the footage is XDCAM 50 footage shot
at
1080p/29.97. No problem, it plays fine. However, XDCAM 35 29.97 won't play
without
showing a black screen. If I park on the footage I see the picture but when
I play it the
screen goes black.
If I change the format to 1080p/29.97 it plays fine.
Any ideas why this happens or how to fix it(other than consolidating or
transcoding all the footage.)

We are seeing this on 3 different systems from two different cameramen.
Why would it play 29.97 but not 59.94? Is there a new codec that has been

Alan,

I have no idea why this is happening or what the solution is, but Xdcam at 35Mbps is a VBR codec (as is Xdcam at 18Mbps). The 25Mbps setting is CBR, like HDV. Maybe the 50Mbps is also CBR and there's an issue in combining the two codec compression schemes. Just a thought.
