Hiya,
We use the AJA Hi5 3G (HDSDI >> HDMI) for our Panasonic plasmas and it works perfectly.

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Default Bin View

Not on my system, I'm afraid. Put a bin view into Site Settings will
make it available to a new user but it will not be active by default,
nor will it be active if the user who creates it makes a new bin or
opens an existing bin in text view. Like I said, I've tried this when
setting up settings for journos in Newsrooms (KISS principle) but it
never worked and as far as I can see, still doesn't. I'm on a Mac BTW
but that shouldn't matter.

Are you planning on using a non-Avid drive as a replacement? Without the
Avid firmware, some utilities will not work, and ³Recover Failed Data Drive²
may not work. Meanwhile, I do not have that part number or the specs.

Anyone have the Western Digital part number for a 1TB drive to go into Media

Or the Specs, if not the drive number?

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Panasonic TH-50PF11UK

I think so. HDSDI to dvi-d, then you use a dvi-d to hdmi adapter.
The website says 'p' and 'deep color.'. My pannys are series 10, not
11, and I already bought the SDI adapter. I'm gonna try one on the
dreamcolor, though.

Update...the inventory upgrades and infastructure work which prevented
shipping and orders from being taken on the web store was slated to end on
April 9, 2010.
But the web store and manufacturing peeps have been busy and it looks like
orders and shipping can now commense on Monday April 5, by 9:00am ET.

The web store might take a bit longer depending on the store supplier
as I know there are tricks with inventory and back end software that
determines if a product can show up as live and orderable.

Problems once accessing any items on the store once we are up and cranking
again, ping me or IM me.

Sorry folks... this may not be the last gasp but I hope it is - remember we
are " moving" to our new buildings in June.

We've successfully done this with EX1 footage. EX1 Camera SDI out directly
to HDCam deck. VITC comes through and matches clips. This Panny HMC150,
however, does not have SDI. It does have HDMI so maybe an HDMI to SDI
converter box?

Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Default Bin View

Really? Not here. In theory this will only work with a new user and a
new project. I've tried to do this for newsroom users and it doesn't
work. Tried it here now and it doesn't work (new user, new project or
any combo of old project, new project, user etc). Defaults to Brief
Bin display. Please show me I am wrong.

You want to make a default and it's been there for quite a while.

Question: Won't this make it the default bin view for all users on the system? If so, sometimes that won't work.

Darren, save any bin view and drag it from the Project window settings tab to
the Special menu site setting item: the chosen bin view will become the default
bin view; this also applies to any custom setting You want to make a default and
it's been there for quite a while.

Re: [Avid-L2] Codec for iPad

The iPad supports H.264 in an MP4 container up to 720p30 (
http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/). Basically, if your converter software has
a preset for Apple TV or iPhone/iPod, it should work.

For the HTML5 syntax and everything you ever wanted to know about HTML5
video, check out http://diveintohtml5.org/video.html

<http://diveintohtml5.org/video.html>If you want a nice HTML5 player script
with an automatic Flash fallback for non-HTML5-compatible browsers, check
out http://code.google.com/p/html5media/ - works very well.

function without a data connection, even in airplane mode.

[Avid-L2] Default Bin View

Is being able to set a default bin view still an outstanding feature
request or am I just missing it (MC 4.0.5)?

[Avid-L2] Re: Upgrades not available

Just happened today.....

We are in the process of transitioning stock on the web store and wont be able to take orders for a bit. I am told that this stock transition is expected to be completed on April 9th. There was a little burp with the store messaging and for a while today it said "There are currently no products assigned to this category". Yikes. The company that drives the store can't upload crafted messaging until the inventory is out of stock phycially. this also is a Worldwide thing. Once that was done, the message should be something like "We are currently upgrading our infrastructure and expect inventory to be available by April 9, 2010".

My emails were bleeping and my IM's were a buzzing on this one.

[Avid-L2] Re: OT: NAB Show iPhone APP

With the help of the coreapps folks I found that I had to set my Blackberry's advanced option for browser from "Internet Browser" to "Media Net". Then the NAB app works properly. Man I thought Avid was deep but this phone thing....

RE: [Avid-L2] RED to MXF q

The 30 fps is the speed it renders at, not the frame rate of the
resulting MXF file.

It creates ALE files to go with the MXF files it makes, if you need
them.

I almost forgot; our own mighty ContentAgent www.root6technology.com can
do this as well.

BTW, Owen Walker, ex of Avid and Adobe just joined root6 as Head of
Product Management for ContentAgent. If you remember Owen and want to
say thanks for his part in AMA and MC 4 swing by our booth at NAB -
SL4428 - and say wotcher and see what we have been working on with
ContentAgent since last year.

There is the inevitable press release about Owen's new role here

It must be DVS day.

If someone nearby has a version 3 Clipster, they can render red to ALL
flavours of DNxHD at 30fps and have the files keep the same file names
and timecode as the Red files.

If you want to do it more slowly; http://www.avid.com/metafuze/

And on a Mac, this http://digital-whippet.com/index.html in due course

So I've got my RED workflow pretty dialed in FCP. Clipfinder output to
ProRes QT, instant import to FCP. Clipfinder will also convert to DNxHD
QT. Is there a way to convert R3D directly to MXF with any app or do I
need to make a intermediary format and import into Avid?

RE: [Avid-L2] Re: Source TC out of Avid

DVS Clipster has done this forever. It also plays native MXF files so
take the digitised Avid MXF, pop it on the Clipster timeline and lay off
to tape. The MXF timecode will be coming out of the LTC out connector on
the back of the Clipster.

Scratch is the only system I know of that allows you to output the
source TC.

RE: [Avid-L2] Re: Avid and P2

Except you have instant access with AMA, with FCP you need to rewrap P2
and XDCAM before you get the legendary ease of media management.

If you rewrap (or consolidate in Avid terms) you get the standard Avid
media management. So, in my book, if you are careful, AMA is a plus.

Great comparison. Maybe this is the standard in a file based world.

Try using a AJA Hi5 or Blackmagic HDLink Pro to go from HD/SD SDI to
