But what's qualified and what will work are two different things. I've run 6.5.X without issue on 10.6.8. The fact that it won't even launch on 10.9 was a first for me. I will have to double check but I'm pretty sure my 6.5 version was 6.5.4.7 so according to this chart it should have worked. I'll look on the drive I cloned from to make sure I've got an acceptable Avid version.

AVID Media Composer 6.5.4 Qualified MacOS:
Lion 10.7.4 – 10.7.5
Mtn Lion 10.8.2 – 10.8.5 Mavericks 10.9, 10.9.1 (with the 6.5.4.1 patch)
10.9.2 (with 6.5.4.2 patch)
10.9.5 (with 6.5.4.4 patch)
And Definitely uninstall AVID first before an OS update!!
