My recommendation would be Synology. I own 9 units (4/5-bay RAID 6, 4-2-bay RAID 1, 1/1-bay FTP Server on Internet) with no enclosure failures. Rock solid OS, frequently updated to add features and address security -- and NAS is all they do. Regarding noise, you can set the drives/fan to go idle after predetermined amount of idle time. Very quiet.
