I researched this a lot before buying Synology, current DS1515 boasts
the quadcore cpu and 4 x gig e with load balancing...
but its the peripheral support that counts, you can connect USB3 or
esata drives and clone to the nas very easily, with support for EXT4
EXT3 FAT NTFS and HFS+.
I run mine in raid 6 but 5 and a lot of other format are supported as
well as internal file transfers and raid migration as you add expansion
units.
On my older units you could add more ram as cache when copying but the
new units let you throw an SSD in as cache allowing faster 'transfers'
to the raid that get tidied up later.
But like all the current small NAS systems it does a lot of other
things, eg you can connect up to 30 IP cameras and have office security,
apple time machine support etc etc etc
I have a few of them and have never missed a beat.
