Subject: Re: [Avid-L2] DVR repair in Los Angeles area
$400 sounds reasonable to me. Updating software on modern decks is pretty
common. I have one fairly old deck and updating the software on it cured at
least one problem that I'd been experiencing. Sometimes it adds new
functionality. Sometimes it improves a codec or error checking or something.
Sometimes the software that runs the deck has a bug in it that's just like a
bug in any other software. Updating the firmware solves it or masks it.

good shop/person in the Los Angeles area? The first place I called estimated
$400 each, not including parts, which seemed rather steep.

of such a thing. Have any of you? Extensive googling turns up nothing.
