RE: [Avid-L2] DVR repair in Los Angeles area

About 3 years ago I sent off a DSR1500 that had marginal tracking and kept
displaying dropout when my other machines didn't. By the time they'd
tweaked the alignment and added all the software updates the bill was over
£1200 - that's around $1800!

The engineers doing the maintenance insisted that I had all the
software/firmware updates or they wouldn't guarantee the job.

So I agree with Steve - $400 sounds dead cheap.

$400 sounds reasonable to me. Updating software on modern decks is pretty
common. I have one fairly old deck and updating the software on it cured at
least one problem that I'd been experiencing. Sometimes it adds new
functionality. Sometimes it improves a codec or error checking or something.
Sometimes the software that runs the deck has a bug in it that's just like a
bug in any other software. Updating the firmware solves it or masks it.

a good shop/person in the Los Angeles area? The first place I called
