[Avid-L2] DVR repair in Los Angeles area

 

I've got a couple of DSR-1500s that are eating tapes. Can anyone recommend a good shop/person in the Los Angeles area? The first place I called estimated $400 each, not including parts, which seemed rather steep.

Also: this guy mentioned updating the firmware on the deck. I have never heard of such a thing. Have any of you? Extensive googling turns up nothing.
