Re: [Avid-L2] Re: list of Avid stuff you miss in FCP?

I know about the change in marker behavior in v.7, and referenced it in one of my earlier posts.

And as to Apple listening, the only way I can think of this is to compare them to your old, mostly deaf aunt. Perhaps if you scream at the top of your lungs directly into her trumpet, she'll eventually hear you. How else to explain a ten year wait for this most rudimentary of features? And without this feature, easily half the functional value of having markers has been unavailable.

As to the value added part, perhaps I should have been clearer. I meant value added to my editing process. I'm not 100% sure what contexts you are referring to when you talk about scoring and compression, but I'm pretty sure they're downstream of my work. If by scoring you mean music scoring, that process has never, in my experience, been reducible to handing a composer any kind of bulleted list, however it was made.

Master clip markers showing up in the bin? Whoohoo! Big deal. The Avid locator window does all of this and more. And I don't need a third party app to print that window.

Assistants adding markers to QT files? Maybe. I can't recall the last time I needed an assistant to do that for me. Locators/markers are notes I make to myself. And of course, if that's really necessary, they can be doing this in MC easily enough with networked Unity media/projects and a copy of MC running in a cubicle someplace, no third party app necessary. For smaller operations, mirrored media on inexpensive firewire drives and a basic network to allow you to kick bins back and forth would also accomplish the same thing. Once again, there's no unique FCP value here.

You do know that marker behavior changed with FCP7, right? Now you can chose to

have timeline markers ripple with sequence edits. One of those things changed

because they listened to users. Oh wait, Apple doesn't do that ;-)

Since you asked:

- The ability to export sequence markers as scoring and compression markers.

- Master clip markers that show up in the bin/browser. You can see the comment

as well as click on the marker and go to that point as a subclip.

- The ability to use 3rd party apps (Digital Heaven Final Print) to print bins

using only marker points to display TC, comments and thumbnail.

- The ability to use 3rd party apps (Digital Heaven MovieLogger) to have

non-editors screen QT files in a simple, task-oriented app, place markers, which

can be exported as XML and used inside FCP.
