[Avid-L2] Re: The growing trend to use DSLRs for HD video shots.

In theory it should link back fine.
And that may even be robust nowadays.
However past experience has shown that links can be lost and original file names of some sources can be duplicated over a range of folders.
This is the one weakness that FCP like media management potentially brings to Avid.
My preferred method of dealing with it is to use AMA to link to my raw source files. Make selects of the material I may need for the edit.
Transcode to the highest format I may need DNX185x possibly.
Take the RAW footage offline.
If the offline system can't handle DNX185 then transcode to SD DV media and offline.
Relink to the DNX and output.
AMAs a great tool for fast access and making selects but it's outside the Avid media management and for me that's a weakness I'll do my best to avoid.

If you AMA the Canon 5D footage and then transcode to DNX 36 for offline will you be able to relink to the original files at a higher res for online. I would hope so but figure I should ask anyway. Overall my concern is are there AMA paths that don't allow for a recapture down the line. Virtually all my Avid online workflows with file based have been with the offline guys using the full res clips so there would be no recapture. This was with the early AMA and before AMA so I want to know what pitfalls are out there.
