With the original MXO, you first calibrate an Apple Cinema display or other DVI monitor with the display setup in the Mac before you do the blue only thing. After that and the blue only adjustments to bars, the end result is reasonably close to a decent HD monitor. I've been using this setup for the last 2 years or so with FInal Cut Pro. The original MXO also outputs SDI with audio and component, composite, Y/C. Matrox claims you can monitor MC 3 and up output with the MXO, but all it really does with Avid is act as a scan converter for full screen playback. I guess if you need it to display on an SDI monitor or make a TC burn, it does that; but I would not make any critical colour grading decisions on it.
