I've got a 160GB AVI file of an HD movie that's about 28 minutes long. I am trying to convert it to something more Avid friendly using VLC.
VLC is not the tool for this I would think.
I did the stream convert dialogue that made a .m4v but it's just a small file like 36MB. I googled and there is mention of a "Media" on the menu bar but I don't see that on my computer. Can't open in after effects. I saw Handbrake is an option. My producer has that so maybe that's an option. What is a lossless solution for this HD AVI file?
Avid is importing the file so I will see what that does. I was hoping to link and transcode but it won't do that with AVI. VLC says it's converting to an H_264 with mpeg audio that I said to 48K. I can only assume VLC isn't really creating a whole new self contained file but some sort of side car file that points to the original AVI. Perhaps I'm just not understanding what VLC does.
Learn FFmpeg, or Handbrake (that uses the same tech) or hire someone who has done this stuff before (like me.)
