I've got a 160GB AVI file of an HD movie that's about 28 minutes long. I am trying to convert it to something more Avid friendly using VLC. I did the stream convert dialogue that made a .m4v but it's just a small file like 36MB. I googled and there is mention of a "Media" on the menu bar but I don't see that on my computer. Can't open in after effects. I saw Handbrake is an option. My producer has that so maybe that's an option. What is a lossless solution for this HD AVI file?
Avid is importing the file so I will see what that does. I was hoping to link and transcode but it won't do that with AVI. VLC says it's converting to an H_264 with mpeg audio that I said to 48K. I can only assume VLC isn't really creating a whole new self contained file but some sort of side car file that points to the original AVI. Perhaps I'm just not understanding what VLC does.
