Avid is PT order internally. And doesn’t have bussing (longtime feature request).
So it gets very messy if you need to output SMPTE order *and* have stereo or mono sources in the timeline.
For live turnaround I end up working with mainly stereo & mono tracks routed to correct outputs then use multiple mixdowns to get them to the right place for export. Requires creating another sequence as multiple mixdown not available on export (long time feature request) although it is available on send to playback.
Previously, if using 5.1 clips in the timeline, the mixdown could get a bit funky (PT/SMPTE translations) so I avoided them.
Recently did testing for 5.1.8 workflows using 7.1 clip to hold the last 8 and that worked OK. Event got postponed though...
(Reason we don’t just use 5.1 clips is need to edit, augment front, remove centre etc etc)
