Re: [Avid-L2] Consolidating Music Clips to Nexis increases their size 50% to 300%

All the responses make sense.  Is a Chunk the same as a Block in this context?  Not sure what Avid File System stripe size is I will have to google.  I am passing on all this data.  It really sounds like it's the chunk/block size.  So what is the practical way to address this on a Nexis, which I assume would be a similar way to fix this on a unity?

Over the weekend they are upgrading the Nexis software and perhaps adding more storage at the same time.

If you are in high performance mode for the storage group, it doubles the size of the Avid File System stripe size from 512 to 1024.

Let it be clear that I have NO IDEA what Nexis is.
But, for math (that I can do):
From BWF to Avid MXF:
Avid MXF always splits to mono, and will add app. (very rough) 1 MB per track for metadata. (well, less, but keep that in mind.)
Then, from 16 to 24 bits, that is easy, divide by 2 multiply by 3.

Then there is something how a drive works, it works in blocks from a specific size. For media drives, a block is HUGE, and only one file can occupy a block (or can occupy multiple blocks.)

So, a gazillion small files can occupy less than a few Kb on a floppy, but take up hundreds of MB on a large block size HD.

We got audio mxf files from a music company along with  avid bins but when they consolidate the files to our nexis they file sizes of mxf audio files are increasing from 50% to 300%.  At first I though with 50% increase they must be going 16bit to 24bit but that doesn't seem to be the case.  Here is what our AE found out today.

"tried a small music clip from the drive, and consolidating to the Nexis tripled its size! 9.4MB to 33.6MB.
However, I tried consolidating the same clip to a local drive, and the size did not increase. So it looks like consolidating to the Nexis is increasing the size."

They are upgrading this Nexis over the weekend as it's very old software as it was one of the first Nexis units made.  Perhaps that will help with this issue.

Anybody seen this kind of behavior?
