Thanks to all who answered my question. Now, which way to jump?

Windows. I'm a longtime Mac fan, and I cling to my old Macs, but I can't make an objective case to buy a Mac for editing anymore. That doesn't mean I won't. I still prefer Macs. This matters to me, and to the people I work with, and it should. But it's not an objective argument. I start with asking what the "client" wants, just like you did.

The PC/Mac divide is mostly obsolete. What's left is subjective and emotional. Computing itself is a commodity and the divide between PC and Mac is narrow and will only get narrower. There are few things you can't do with either and any installation should support both, and can easily.

The Linux vs Windows debate is more relevant to the future. If you are young and into computers, you need to learn Linux.

Cheers,
