[Avid-L2] Re: 4K project file import errors.

I'm not sure why it doesn't work on Avid 1 but does on the others.  I don't spend a lot of time in unity, isis, nexus world so I may not say this right.  You mentioned deleting Avid1 folder on Isis.  Does each bay's folder contain it's own mc state and .avs file?  I ask because I've seen strange capture issues where I could not batch capture clips but if I took one clip and dragged it into the capture tool it would capture but the same clip would not batch capture. I deleted the .avs file voila it worked in batch capture.

Given you deleted the folder  I think that would have done basically the same thing unless the .avs folder lives outside the individual bay folders.  I'm not at work to check our Nexus structure right now.

I have seen weirdness about mixed resolution QT files but I don't recall the exact senerio.

Currently we have a 4K project with dnx36 media for offline.  We set the source settings to letter/pillerbox so in the 4K format the dnx36 fills the screen and is correct but if they switch to an HD project the clips show a letterboxed.  This all makes sense given the clips are from 4096_2160 clips so they get letterboxed to fit into 16:9 HD.  The problem is in offline they blew up some shots with a resize or perhaps 3D warp.  Now when they switch to HD the blown up shots  have no letter box.  This all makes sense and I told them to just put a mask over the whole sequence and match it to the letterbox on a normal shot.  That will work but they are telling me all the resized blown up shots are stretched visibly.

I'm assuming the stretching is the result of the fact that they are working in a 4K project so when you resize or use a 3D warp the normal aspect ration is 1.9:1 not 16:9.  So when  the project gets switched to HD the existing resize or 3D warp is now being rescaled or something resulting in stretched images.  I'm wondering if your batch reimport might be dealing with something like this issue.  Given it works on other stations I'd doubt it but it's something I've just begun to troubleshoot.

I'm wondering if my  issue would be resolved with a refresh of the sequence aspect ratios or something else.

The short term solution for us is to just export a 2K file and not an HD file.  I'd welcome any insight into how a native 1.9:1 3D warp  effect gets properly converted into 16:9 HD space.

Multiple Mac MC2018.5 workstations connected to an ISIS 5500.

• The other week I made a 1920x1080 23.98 project. Everything is working fine for that project.

Destination resolution is DNxHD 36

• Today I created a 4k 4096x2160 23.98 project. Same user settings as the HD project.

In the Media Creation settings I have set the destination as the same as the HD project. 1.18TB of available space on the ISIS workspace.

I made the destination codec DNxHR LB

I changed the Import settings to scale images.

I set Proxy under Format to 1/4

On workstatoin Avid1

I go to import the same JPGs that I already imported into the HD project but get the error Exception: MXFDomain_INIT_FAILED. I try other images not imported into the HD project. JPGs, TIFFs, PNGs, and get the same error. I try importing to a local USB3 drive and same error. I've tried importing from network shares and my desktop. I do notice that it leaves files behind in the creating folder on the media volume.

I go to import the same QTs that imported into the HD project and get the error Exception: Cannot quick import a mixed resolution QuickTime movie. I try different QT from different sources that are in different codecs, DNx, PhotoJPEG, ProRes, h246, etc. I try to the ISIS and local. All no joy.

I reboot. No joy.

I switch over to Avid2.

Same project. Same user settings (exported and copied and with the same settings in Media Creation and Import). Same source files. Same ISIS destination. And boom. It works.

I switch over to a totally unsupported MacMini and it works.

I deleted the Avid1 folder on the ISIS volume and let it make a new one. No good.

I create new user settings on the Avid1 MC. All to no luck.

I switch back to the HD project and I can import any files to all the destinations.

Any ideas?
