I had this problem recently on a MBP. It would mostly hang on Initializing Media Streams Manager but would occasionally hang on the same message you quoted. What finally solved it was removing everything from the folder:
/Library/Application Support/Avid/AVX2_Plug-ins
except for the one named 'NewBlue'.
