[Avid-L2] Mixer putting in keyframes

Im always amazed at how often I come across something in the Avid, after 25 years of working with it, that baffles me.

On this current project, whenever I adjust volume in the audio tool, it creates key frames in the timeline tracks I am adjusting.  So if I bring down a nat track, play a bit and decide it needs to be lower, I use mix tool to lower audio, and now I have a keyframe instead of just a volume reduction.  What setting is doing this?  And how do I stop it?

Thanks
