So I am seeing an oddity with dip to color on Avid 8.9.4 and Avid 7.X. When a dip to color is placed at a cut point duration 6 frames starting 3 frames from the cut the effect doesn't go to full white in the middle at the cut point or to full black if dipping to black. The foreground control goes from 43 on frame 3 (last frame of outgoing cut) to 57 on frame 4 (first frame of incoming shot). As a result you see the shots mostly whited out but the cut still shows through. If I manually add a keyframe on the 4th frame of the effect and set foreground to 50 then the screen is full white. This is in a 23.976 1080P project. WTF? How long has this been there and I didn't notice it. I haven't tried any other project types just a different Avid station with a different Avid version.
I'd understand if I did an asymmetrical effect but 6 frames starting 3 frames before the cut is a perfectly centered effect. Why isn't foreground at the 4th frame automatically?
