I might not have been clear but I'm referring to Find/Search/command+F within MC, not the Mac OS Spotlight.

Avid has specifically turned off Spotlight indexing on ISIS/NEXIS workspaces. This was part of the work done in ISIS v4.5 to optimize performance on the Mac.
Spotlight does lots of tiny I/Os and adds a number of invisible files which will double the file count.
