I thought there were some issues trying to hook a Nitris DX over Thunderbolt using an expansion chassis. There were some features or elements that were not supported due to some limitation in the thunderbolt interface or architecture. I forget the exact things that went missing but there were certain things that were available with a PCIe HIB connection that were lost in thunderbolt connectivity.
Am I mis remembering this?

In the beginning you had to have the Avid hardware.
And the market said, "we can all make hardware", and there was unrest.
Then Avid said, okay, "we can make cheaper external hardware." (That won't actually work well)
And the market said, "we can do it better and cheaper for your competition."
And Avid said (in a panic) "Okay, we will use other's hardware." and there was mayhem.
And the almighty Grant said, "I can make it cheaper than anyone, and it will be good enough."
And Avid said, "We give up, let's buy Grant's hardware, slap our name on it, and charge more for it."
And all was peaceful, even as the folks waited for renders of things that used to be done in real time on Avid hardware.
