CMX had what they called a dedicated keyboard with the various functions on the keycaps. A dedicated keyboard is the fastest most efficient way for most to work. When I tried to make my Avid keyboard like my ISC/GVG/Editware keyboard it didn't work. I could say it didn't work well but it really didn't work when I first remapped a bunch of stuff it literally didn't work. It always seems best to try and accommodate the basic keyboard settings of any app at first then modify along the way as you get more accustomed to the interface.
At CMX school they said it would take 6 months to get comfortable on the keyboard and that was a much simpler set of tools mapped to the keyboard. I still feel the same way about new interfaces. It never hurts to have a little symbol to reinforce my muscle memory especially bouncing from bay to bay and app to app.
Smith Corona didn't decide not to put the "e" label on the button just because everybody knew where it was.

It's well designed for my needs.I also have Premiere, FCP7, FCPX, And a little Resolve in my head. If I could only concentrate on Avid, I wouldn't need it....but my little brain can't hold that many keyboard shortcuts. And no, the other NLEs don't work efficiently when you remap their keyboards to be more Avid like. As I said earlier, I now use skins for Premiere Pro and Avid.On Monday, May 16, 2016, Mark Spano cutandcover@... [Avid-L2] <Avid-L2@yahoogroups.com> wrote:I never wanted an Avid keyboard. For one, it only shows you the default buttons. Who keeps the default button set? And don't you lay out a bunch on shift? What good is a keyboard that shows you some default button set when you've changed some? And you can't remember where play is?This would be the only key customizable keyboard I'd buy:And it's just too dumb and expensive anyway. On Sat, May 14, 2016 at 9:40 PM, Mark Santora mrsantora@...
