I'm a one man seat, own two avid licenses (one perpetual one rental), and till now never have a problem with licenses (and here in Argentina our economy just don't work). But I can tell if you have a problem Marianne it's the person. I ask her a lot of things when avid move to this type of licenses and was allways very helpful. Besides that, I dont like the app manager. I think needs a lot of improvement, learn from adobe's app, and learn that today with great offers in the market good updates to the soft it's great like a good and easy way to subscribe or pay.
Dario.
Here, in Argentina, all the big postproduction houses and channels except 1 or 2 are Avid based.
Premiere has replaced most of the FCP Legacy seats and is mostly used by stand alone, 1 man show editors. If there's any collaboration it's Avid.

( we are a Mac free zone so no experience of FCPX) Pretty much all the UK TV ( I have no experience of news) is Avid I would say.
We are I guess a mid sized post house, about 25 Avids, mostly UK TV – Drama, Studio, Doc…
We'd be out of business tomorrow if we switched to any of the alternatives as our main editing tool.

Well KTLA is going FCP X and they are Tribune. Trying to crash edit a pkg on FCP X is going to prove interesting.

The local Fox/Tribune station is still on FCP 7, and likely going to Premiere.
It's all numbers. They can put in more seats, less expensively, and have almost equivalent capabilities.

What I'm seeing in the broadcast market is a migration toward Premiere not to AVID. Many big network companies are weighing the costs/bennie of keeping a system versus the changeover to a box with a lot more tools.
NYC is migrating toward Premiere and AVID is considered "old" Where I am at FOX 45 in Baltimore, our newsroom INEWS/AVID system is 8 years old and managers are eyeing EDIUS, Premiere and velocity.
just my 2 cents.

The ironic thing is, a company that can't even
handle something this simple, is trying to sell a pipe-dream
about how they are going to build this huge
"Platform" that everyone in media is going to use
for commerce. Really?!?!?!

When I lost my perpetual simply because no one could process
a
credit card I moved a group of 6 over to Premiere for a
series we
had, it meant I had to drop out as senior editor but I was
out of
energy to fight to pay a company that clearly doesn't
want my money.
My friend in Bangkok has been in contact with Avid for A
YEAR trying
to upgrade 8 seats and they've now gone Premiere.
I can't use the one I'm paying for right now as
though the web shows
its paid and active the license manager is too useless to be
able to
sync and gives me error messages that Ive given up trying to
fathom
out. Im on day 3 cutting a show in resolve and its not
unpleasant.
My other perpetual license is in a computer thats currently
in a box
waiting for my new offices to open so I will still have an
avid seat
or two, I'll probably put it in reception next to my CMX
nd 35mm
splicer.
Stick a fork in them, they're done.

I left my support subscription expire. Yes it's my

card on file, that it would auto-renew. I was warned. It
didn't, and it was my fault. Now my perpetual license
is
gone, and I'm not happy.
The Avid Store wants $49.99/month for editing software. I
already pay $49.99 for Creative Cloud, because I need
Photoshop and After Effects. CC INCLUDES Premiere -
which although it has some weaknesses, has been very
quickly catching up to Avid. Although it's media
management sucks, for a lot of what i do, it's better
because of the tightly integrated links to AE and
Photoshop.
I'm very frustrated. I've been an Avid user since
1992.
I've stuck with it when all my contemporaries switched
to
FCP. I stick with it through hardware debacles. I stuck
with it through stunted product development as other
companies caught up - and in many cases surpassed them,
even though they had a light years long lead. I like
cutting on Avid, I'm still faster on it than anything
else.
But I will not spend $1300 for another license, and I
can't see subscribing when I already get a copy of
Premiere. As a small shop specializing in corporate work,
I have to watch every cent.
I'm sorry Avid. I'm probably done.
