Just trying to stay in the native Avid media that once rendered exports in half real time. Going to prores will be a time suck. The bottom line is if they are able to play a prores QT then other than not wanting to install the Avid LE codecs package which takes all of 5 minutes what other reason is there they can't play a QT DNxHRHQX? It's just stupid. And given I have to ultimately deliver a .dpx why jump from DNxHR to prores just because the QC chuckle heads aren't willing to accommodate it. We sent the file to QC and the final IMF prep facility. The IMF prep facility is perfectly fine doing their prep work with the DNxHR so why not the bone heads at QC?
It's the typical I don't have a button for that McDonalds mentality. As I already mentioned this is the same QC facility that was/is using FCP 7 to QC our ProRes HD file on a previous project claiming the audio was missing at the top when even the network we sent it to said they have the audio and it's fine. So it's just some level of incompetence that can't do anything other than what they have a preset for.
Now I'm open to any logical reason why they can't install the Avid codecs and play out the QT .mov to their scope. Can you think of a reason if they are capable of playing a QT prores to the scope and monitor why they can't install the Avid codecs and play that file through QT out to their monitor. Or whatever software/hardware they have can obviously play a QT to the scope so once the codecs are install how could it matter whether it's ProRes or DNxHRHQX? There could be something I'm missing but I went through this on my work system just a few days ago and after installing the LE package of Avid codecs I could then play the DNxHRHQX file on my Symphony 6.5.4.7 startup drive. I couldn't use the files in Avid but QT would play them fine and Adobe Media Encoder handled them fine once the latest LE package was installed. If you have an answer for that I will listen. Otherwise I'm stuck feeling the QC monkeys can't move from the particular banana tree.

Would it be worth it to take the file into Resolve and let it crank? We only have a GTX-680 system so not super beefy. Did you contemplate using one of your beefier Resolve computers for the task. IIRC you have a TitanX on at least one of your systems but I bet Avid doesn't take advantage of it.

They say they can't play it into their scope and want a ProRes. I told them that all they had to do was download the Avid LE codecs package like I did in an earlier thread this week. If they can play a prores QT True 4K to the scope then they should be able to play an DNxHRHQX .mov in QT to the scope after installing the LE Codecs. The whole process took me 5 minutes to do the other day but apparently asking this lazy ass Fing QC house to install Avid codecs is asking to much of this high volume QC facility. This is the same place that was using FCP 7 to QC HD shows we delivered and they couldn't read the audio correctly on those files specifically because they were using FCP7. Am I wrong to think this is complete BS? Ultimately we have to deliver a .dpx for IMF creation so why am I not sending them a .dpx? Oh wait .dpx doesn't really come out of Avid 8.5.2 or does it now? I know I can ama link to a .dpx file but could I even generate a .dpx out of Avid? At any rate I don't see why these A holes can't load the Avid codecs and QC the file. If you can scope a prores QT then you can scope an Avid codec QT. What am I missing but a compete lack of service being provided by this useless QC house? Not in a True 4K Joy mood today am I? ;-)John Moore Barking Trout Productions Studio City, CA bigfish@...
