Hmmm. I'm thinking maybe the jpegs were adjusted in Lightroom and only Photoshop understood the metadata.

Sounds like Photoshop is respecting the metadata -- but not MC.Try opening them in Photoshop and saving them again with the correct rotation (your choice, jpg, tif, png)Then import them into MC again.
