I'm curious, perusing this thread, why many of you think that you can't choose which tracks you want to edit from a sequence in source to different tracks in record? I have no problem doing this. Load a sequence into source. Highlight which tracks you want to come over in the source, click/drag to connect them to the record tracks you want in sequence, and edit. Works very intuitively. The only thing that doesn't work the same as Avid is the record track highlights - it does only pay attention to source track highlights. But you can very easily direct the tracks where you want them to go.
The key is to disable nest edits. I demonstrated it in a little screen recording if you want.

I'm curious if anyone has any useful tips on collaborative workflow in Premiere - is there an efficient way to share a project, or to have an assistant working in a copy of a project and then integrate their work back into a master project?
I don't see any support for metadata import/export/merge, for instance.

"Basically you have two timelines open, one above the other...and you can easily move stuff between them."
You can have multiple source 'selects' sequences open - viewed as timelines above 1 or more master timelines.
Keys to reassign:Project Panel - 'Open in Source Monitor' to Shift+OSource Monitor Panel - 'Open Sequence in TImeline' to Shift+O (different panels so can have same shortcut)
Window 'Source Monitor' to CMD+2 (or whatever - I think this is an FCP7 hangover for me)Window 'Program Monitor' to CMD+4
Now you can open your master timeline, then choose your selects timeline(s) and click Shift+O to get them into source monitor and Shift+O again to get their timelines displayed. Drag the master timeline by it's name tab down to the bottom of the timeline panel - and they are pancaked.
CMD+2 will toggle between sources and CMD+4 will toggle between master timelines.
You can overwrite/insert from source to record, or drag & drop, or copy & paste. For insert/overwrite it is the source track selection that is used - program track selection is ignored.
I expect you'll want a bigger monitor pretty soon though...
