Terry,
I keep thinking about this.
And the workflow in question here, is designed that Avid creates the MXF media files for the Resolve media pool. The Avid sequence is exported as an AAF and that AAF in Resolve links to the MXF media files to the Timeline with "Reel Names" reading the embedded "Source Icon Name Metadata" in the MXF media files.
That is what makes my workflow rock solid!!! I figured out how to use the Avid native embedding into MXF media files and native embedding into the AAF (And EDL too if choosen) for this workflow!!!
Avid supports mixed frame rate clips & Resolve supports mixed frame rate clips, that means my workflow supports mixed rate clips for a round-trip reconform to the original avid sequence. Every original Avid effect is in place and ready for the Resolve MXF media files. Every Edit is kept intact. and Every track is kept intact!!! . And to be clear I am talking about mxf media files as the wrapper for the workflow in question here. The codec also known as the resolution now supports greater than HD too!!! So my workflow supports almost everything you are saying it does not!!! Again Avid created the MXF media files, so I am not sure what you are seeing as a problem here.
When a clip does not have timecode the avid assigns 00:00:00:00 for AMA and that too is supported and becomes valid timecode in the mxf media file.
I am not sure why you think this workflow does not work.
It truly supports resolution independence for mxf media files and the sequence composition for an online reconform. This workflow is amazing!!! If Avid and Resolve supports it and auto assigns the same values then no-trouble shooting is necessary. This is truly unbreakable workflow because I built it to use the native command in both Avid and Resolve for the reconform of tapeless files!!!
If avid supports the codec wrapper combo then the Avid can make an MXF media file, so this too is accomplished and supported in my workflow.
I deeply respect your opinions and your work, so thank you for taking the time and telling me your problems. From what I am understanding, this workflow sounds like it is a solution for a Resolve & Avid Symphony round-trip and re-round-trip. So far the Resolve just makes the same mxf media files that Avid is making thus perfect compatibility because Resolve is using the Avid Media Toolkit!!!
I wish I understood what step in this workflow is not working for you?
Unbreakable Conform for Avid Symphony & DaVinci Resolve : AVID
The only issue I have seen so far is some non-standard fps mxf media files, Resolve guesses a wrong fps. Is that what you are seeing as a problem? If so, I can understand that one!!!!
Also if the Avid Bin is displaying a rolled over timecode then I use Aux TC2 to relink in the Avid. For this the AAF in Resolve would have an event asking for a timecode 24 or over so this too can be flagged. Maybe that is what you are seeing? If so, I can understand that one!!!
I would love you to be happy with this workflow. It is a computer and I did not invent the programs I am just attempting to use the programs as stated in the manual and then when something is not in the manual or does not seem to work as the manual states or is just not in the UI, I test and retest and attempt to figure out a solution.
It sounds like you might be seeing something fascinating and I would love to attempt to solve any problem you are having!!! You are very talented and I understand if it does not work, I just want to have a chance to learn and see if I can figure it out.
