There was a change along the way back around Ver. 5.5 ish. I posted about it. I found when multing two stereo tracks to create a mono track that I would then lower the gain -6db to handle the doubled level it became -3db when I was in stereo mode and -6db if I was in mono.
Do a test with two tracks of tone and do an audio mixdown. The resulting mixdown will be +6db hot when in mono and only +3db when in stereo in the audio output. I always switch to mono mode in the audio output before doing in multing audio mixdowns to avoid the inconsistency. I think since I ran into this way back when it had changed back to the normal -6db to level out a mult but perhaps it's back to the old tricks again.
