Dual 6 core Westmere (12 x 2.93) here. Running fine with HD and Yosemite. Interested to see if it's faster once the bug is fixed. I don't notice any performance issues, but maybe that's because I upgraded from an 2008 8 core. I think the problems are more pronounced with 2k, 4k, etc. Maybe more so on the new Mac Pro than the Westmere?
You are lucky your machine shipped with Mavericks. Several users have tried to downgrade machines that shipped with Yosemite without success.
I'd wait on Yosemite until the next version of Avid, which should have the fix for the processor issues. Should not be too long. In addition, Yosemite is buggy as hell..no compelling reason to update, unless you have software that requires it. The next MacOSX update, still in beta, actually reinstates the old DNS resolver because Apple gave up on the new one written for Yosemite. It's been the source of a lot of network frustration for many users. It's probably the most disappointing OS in many years.

We're on the dual 6-core westmere towers on 8.3.1, 10.10.2 and running fine up to HD. Haven't used it for 2k or beyond. On Tue, Jun 2, 2015 at 12:20 PM, kenavid2@glueedit.com [Avid-L2] <Avid-L2@yahoogroups.com> wrote:I was planning on upgrading to Yosemite on my 12 core trashcan and found this:
- Note:12-core 2013 Mac Pro (Ivy Bridge 6,1 Cylinder) and dual 6-core Mac Pro (Westmere 5,1 tower) model CPU's on Mac OSX 10.10.x (Yosemite) have known performance issues with playback, render, and transcode of higher resolution material. If possible, customers with these CPUs should stay on Mac OS 10.9.5 as it does not exhibit the same performance issues.
Anyone else having similar issues?
