Re: [Avid-L2] MacPro or MacBook Pro?

I have a full PC set up in my office (also a full MacPro setup), but have been editing more and more on a laptop. Sometimes single monitor and sometimes as you describe. I use a current model MacBookPro 15" and USB3 or Thunderbolt drives most of the time.

I think the only real issue you'll have moving stuff back and forth is the formatting of the media drives. They either need to be formatted for PC use or the PCs need MacDrive software.

I've been using DropBox as my External Drive for Avid Projects, and my PC can do the same thing and sees and uses my Mac-created Avid projects all the time. I have an older PC Symphony and sometimes bins with sequences won't open up because I've used something that is not compatible with an older version of MC in the sequence, but many sequences open perfectly between them, and I'm sure that the only times I have problems is due to running MC6 on the PC side and MC8 on the Mac side.

Been an Avid user since early 90's. Storyteller, not so much into fx.  Am contemplating setting up a small home studio on a Mac. (I also have access to an all PC multi-Avid shop an hour away.) Would like to know what anyone recommends to be able to edit comfortably at home and still take work back and forth.
I am used to a 2 monitor setup and a client monitor, but was wondering if I can get by with 1 monitor for bins and timeline and the other monitor always in full screen mode? Laptop or desktop Mac??
