When I saw the back of the box my first thought was that Avid must have spec'ed the box. Blackmagic would never put so many connections on it. They would put a few and sell you converters if you need to do something else.
Don't forget Avid has a varied user base from broadcasters across the world to guys making wedding videos at home. That's one of the reasons the price on this box isn't what we consider competitive.
I have questions like, will it use Teranex tech for frame rate conversions, and if so, what adjustments will be available. Also, how will they guarantee proper "A" fame with timecode alignment.
Will it handles closed caption in and out? etc. These are questions for the booth tomorrow.
As for Symphony, you are right Avid let it die just like DS and so many other industry leading technologies they had. Since we are being forced to Resolve as a finishing solutions any of the 3 "A" NLEs are fine. It was interesting to note that by a show of hands at the PreNAB Editors' Lounge Premiere Pro has made a huge leap in the LA market saturation. And two of the editors on the panel said they would prefer to cut in Premiere.
Not all is lost as Avid will support those programs on their storage servers. Oh wait a minute...
