On a related topic... if we are to now use resolve on our avid workstations can Avid please support the tangent elements :)

Regarding the Fusion plugin -- it's not a different question.  

Regarding some form of Resolve interoperability --  if we are to believe that the Avid I/O box is OEMed by BMD, then we're talking about two companies that are now involved in a business relationship that is clearly at a higher level than in the past.  Sure, it could be nothing more than that -- and I indicated that in my first or second post.

Regarding Baselight -- Avid does not have a similar solution with Filmlight.  For better or worse, Baselight does not have the market penetration of Resolve.  And Avid would not be "competing with a similar solution they already have with FilmLight" -- because the Baselight Plugin is obviously is not Avid's product.
