.. so here I am, nearly two years after posting the original question, still needing a decent answer.
I'm back in (probably - can't remember) the same facility in London UK. They have about twenty seats of Avid Media Composer ver. 7.0.4.1 on an ISIS. Next week I will be doing a ton of moves on stills.
No, they will not be upgrading their Avids and no, they don't have any third party software on the Avids, and no, third party software is not good for their workflow before you ask.
PLEASE - Avid answer my original question!

I have tried Frame Flex as kindly suggested, but although it can give me a linear path (not immediately - you have to fiddle with it), it does NOT give you the option of Velocity ease in/ease out, so it is not good enough.
I suppose the only thing left is Marquee, but it is not installed on all the Avids, so that's no good.
Avid? Are you there?
