[Avid-L2] MC 7.0.4.3 buggy behavior

here's a fun glitch:

system: Mac Pro (MacPro3,1 early 2008 "Harpertown") 2 x 3Ghz Quad Core Intel Xeon, 32 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM memory, NVidia GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB, Nitris DX hardware. Mac OS 10.8.5

installed 7.0.4.3, and noticed the first day that the system seemed a bit unstable, a little crashy etc. attempting to output an H264 version of a 38 min doc yesterday i'd get a fatal error at the very end no matter where i was storing it, leaving a corrupt file that wouldn't trash without a restart. did the usual dance, repair permissions, uninstall and reinstall the patch, and finally uninstalled and reinstalled 7.0.4. everything is happy now.
anyone know anything about this? i've been holding off on a CPU upgrade so that i don't lose the Nitris DX hardware, but it's close to the end of its usefulness (if you're looking to do 2K and beyond eventually) so that's a path. or sourcing a late-model pre-trashcan Mac Pro to hold me over.
