Then at the very least, I can definitively tell you that HD-SDI with embedded audio playing out of MC 8.3 via IO Express is locked in sync no matter what the desktop vs. output delay is.

As mentioned, and as confirmed by AJA, the audio/video sync problem is embedded in the HD-SDI and HDMI outputs. And my tests have proven this fact.Therefore, there is nothing to be gained by monitoring the de-embedded audio stream -- because it is no different from using the dedicated unbalanced audio outputs of the AJA interface itself.
