I ran into this exactly once. The left and right source audio were the same mono track, however the channels were 180 degree out of phase with each other. When they were both panned to center, they cancelled each other out completely.
You can check the audio phase in Protools, Audition, or an external phase meter.

Thanks, Wilson, I'll look into that. What's VLC? Thanks for the heads up on that shareware, too. I'll check it out.
I have sort of solved it, discovering that when I SOLO the A1 track, either on the Source side on in the Timeline, the audio plays, so I think it's a phase problem with the two tracks. I've cut only A1 into the sequence and I can hear the audio fine now, can even cut A1 into both the Timeline A1 and A2 tracks and it plays fine. Don't know why this has developed. Thoughts, anyone?
