One of my concerns with propriety software like BKU is accessing tapes in 30 years time.
Will there be an OS that supports the restore software then?
LTFS is much simpler. Just a driver and you can access your tapes. As for speed I can archive a 1.5TB drive in around 4 hours over a 1Gb network. Could reduce that if I move upto 10Gb
The Discovery delivery mode already makes the StorageDNA option valuable and the archive and restore from AAFs or Avid Bins really helpful for Post work.
Never had a lock up dragging files off at finder level in 2 years. But mostly we use the software to restore as its quicker to seach the catalogue than the raw tape.
A file restore direct from tape at finder level can take 10 mins.
