Not surprisingly, it seems like that product also uses some of the FFmpeg libraries (see Appendix B in the documentation). My testing with FFmpeg *also* felt a lot like the files were being rewrapped -- and the processing was very fast.
With the well-documented issues of H.264, our goal with client media is to preserve the original signal with the least amount of processing and/or generations.
Although much more expensive ($495 US), Drastic Technologies' MediaReactor Workstation not only provides a direct connection to the source media -- it supports AMA, allowing for immediate review and the ability to be more selective in terms of transcoding to DNxHD.
Still, this in a nice find at a very affordable price. Thanks for sharing.
