Re: [Avid-L2] Relinking grouped/multi-grouped clips

If there is an embedded reel name in the source files that got baked into the DNX175X made by Resolve it should work.  In practice I've seen how with Red files the embedded reel name is not recognized by Avid ama links to the media so I assume depending on the original media sources and how their reel name, which in Avid tends to become tape name but not always, is handled there is room for issues.  Had the Resolve transcoding manually added a reel name I would think that that would have been recognized by Avid and then your transcodes would have been more robust in relinking to the original DNX 175 material.  I'm guessing those original Resolve to Avid DNX175x files did not get a reel name embedded in an Avid friendly way but that's just speculation.

I didn't mean for this to generate such discussion, but since it has generated a little bit, let me explain: I wish it had been as simple as described.  But here is what NOT to do:

Don't assume you can initially build stand-alone mirrored projects in two edit bays for a reality show bringing in media transcoded initially on a Resolve system at 175x.  There is no way you are going to have room for all the material.  We won't even begin to discuss the possible production problems that contribute to other nightmares in the workflow; but

Don't assume you can then decide to move to a Unity and Transcode that original Resolve Transcoded 175x mxf material to DNX 36 HD - by First consolidating and Then transcoding (downrezzing).  The .new clip Breaks the link between media and file, especially in multi-grouped clips.  Dot New basically will screw you.

None of this, incidentally, was my idea.  I never would have work-flowed this project this way at any point along the way.

The good news, is that despite the considerable hiccups, it's more or less getting done.

Cheers,
Paul
