Re: [Avid-L2] MC 8.1 - confused about the status of audio plugin support.

Also, most plugins you may have bought recently would very likely already have been ported to support AAX, as that is what Pro Tools has been switching to over v10 and v11.

So not too many people need to be pissed off. Most if not all of them will already own the license to run an AAX version of their plugins, and MC is supposed to append all settings from one to the other.

Except for a few Avid plugins that were never ported to AAX:
No replacement for these AudioSuite plug-ins: BF Essential Clip Remover, Chorus, Flanger, Delay, Mutli-Tap Delay, Ping-Pong Delay

No replacement for these RTAS plug-ins: Extra Long Delay II, Long Delay II, Medium Delay II, Short Delay II, Slap Delay II, EQ3 4-Band, Phase Scope, SurroundScope

Not knowing for sure, what I can tell you is that there is a huge difference between AudioSuite and RTAS. I believe that AAX64 is replacing RTAS, but I would be surprised if AudioSuite went away.

Having read the 'What's New' for 8.1 I can't quite work out what audio plugin architectures are supported.

Page 3 clearly states that the 64 bit AAX architecture replaces RTAS. I bet this has annoyed a few users who have recently bought RTAS plugins as it that wasn't long ago that these were introduced into MC.  Audiosuite plugin support appears to have also been dropped if you read the section that says..

'Media Composer 8.1 will install AAX replacements that are fully compatible with the RTAS and AudioSuite plug-ins that were provided by default in previous versions of Media Composer. RTAS and AudioSuite plug-ins that you may have purchased on your own are NO LONGER COMPATIBLE with this and future versions of Media Composer.'

However, on the same page it says...

'There are a number of new plug-ins:
• New for AudioSuite: Channel Strip, Eleven Free, Maxim, Mod Delay III, SansAmp PSA-1
'

If it is the case that Audiosuite plugin support has been dropped and AAX is a track-based effect, how does one add an audio effect to a clip? I know I could move the audio clip to a new track and add the AAX effect there, but this becomes a real pain if you're adding a lot of clip effects (that all have slightly different settings) as each clip requires its own track.
