Why no. Thank you for the tip. I left one important item out of my post. Version 6.5. No databases. But I need to remember this for my v7/8 systems.

Note that the "1000 clip" limit mentioned in the Avid article seems to be bad phrasing according to Marriana. There is no 1000 clip limit. The more clips, the more taxing on the system, just like any database.

I don't believe I have had any trouble with the database on the project that I am working with right now. I'm quite certain this project has way more than 1000 clips of many different types.
