I've seen this happen so often with ProRes files coming in via AMA. Usually I don't encounter the error until I try to consolidate or transcode. In either case, there's no way around it, other than subclip what you need and try to transcode that, or do a straight import. There's something broken in the QT AMA and though it's inconsistent (and usually works), when it doesn't, there seems to be no real recourse.
