I gotcha now. I'm going to have to draw this out in my head a bit better.
Of course I could push this through a clean mixer. That would give me level control. And yes I'll be using an SPL monitor to level the monitors.

P.S. I have seen people use setups where they needed to grab the front level control of each individual active monitor to lower or raise monitoring level. Pretty insane to do that in 5.1, also, for proper 5.1 you need these monitors level-aligned.
